MORTARA TAKES FIRST POINTS IN GREAT BRITAIN! Photo NewsPrema Powerteam driver Edoardo Mortara has claimed his first points in the Formula Renault Eurocup on round five of the series at Donington Park, Great Britain. Donington Park is an exciting and challenging circuit, which hosted the 1993 European Grand Prix. On that famous occasion there was heavy rain, but this time bright sunshine greeted the 100,000-strong crowd. Like most of the circuits this year, Donington Park was entirely new to Edoardo. He set some top 10 times in free practice, but struggled to come to terms with the car’s handling during the single qualifying session on Saturday morning. As a result, he qualified 16th for race one and 13th for race two. The first race came to an abrupt end on the opening lap, when the 19 year-old was struck from behind by another competitor. But race two marked a change in his fortunes. Having made an excellent start, Mortara made several aggressive yet safe overtaking manoeuvres to end up in ninth place overall and score two points: the highest-placed Italian in the race. His race pace was consistently impressive, setting the same lap-times as the frontrunners. The former karting champion commented: “It was a really enjoyable race for me, and I’m delighted to score my first points in the European Formula Renault Championship, against such a quality field. This was an important psychological hurdle for me to overcome, so now I am convinced that this will lead to even better results in the future. I would like to thank the Premapower team for giving me such an excellent and well-balanced car here this weekend, which was easy to drive even without pushing too hard. I’m looking forward to the next round now!” The next round of the Formula Renault Eurocup takes place at Le Mans, France, from September 30-October 1. Before this, Edoardo will be in action again at the next round of the Italian Formula Renault Championship at Varano from September 16-17.
