RAGUES SHOWS HIS POTENTIAL AT BRANDS HATCH
 Euronova driver Pierre Ragues has coped with a weekend of mixed fortunes at Brands Hatch – but his potential has been clear to see from the start.
Brands Hatch, which formerly hosted the British Grand Prix, is renowned as a real driver’s circuit. Pierre took to it straight away, setting some promising times in free practice. Qualifying was exceptionally competitive, and Pierre’s progress was hampered by a red flag that stopped the session with six minutes to go. Then, on his last flying lap, he ran out of petrol. Despite this big setback Pierre was 11th on the grid for race one.
Once the action got underway, Pierre made a good start but he was passed on the first corner. The safety car then came out to deal with an incident, and at the re-start the 22 year-old was locked into a fierce battle. Over the last six laps, a big effort saw him set comparable times to the race leaders. Pierre eventually finished 10th, just half a second away from a points-scoring place.
This meant that he also started 10th in race two, where he made another good start and began to work his way up through the field. Pierre was heading for a points position, but then he was forced to retire his car with gearbox problems.
Pierre commented: “It was obviously something of a frustrating weekend for me, ruined by little problems with red flags, running out of fuel in qualifying and the gearbox issue. The encouraging thing is though that we clearly had the pace to be competitive. During the closing stages of race one, I was able to set the same sort of lap times as the leaders, which was clearly very positive, and in race two we had a great chance of scoring points. With a clean run I am sure we could have been right up there, and this is what I am now aiming for at the last round of the season in Monza.”
The final round of the inaugural Formula Master Championship at the famous Italian circuit of Monza will take place on October 7, and Pierre is determined to finish the season on a high.
