FABIO COMPLETES FIRST TEST WITH THREE BOND IN JAPAN Photo NewsBrazilian ace Fabio Carbone has racked up nearly 400 kilometres of private testing with his new Three Bond Japanese Formula 3 team, after completing two days at the Fuji circuit last week where the first race will take place on April 1. Fabio spent two days getting to know the car and the team in Aida earlier this month, and he will have five more days of official tests before the series begins. So far, Fabio has encountered no mechanical problems and he has impressed the team greatly with his natural speed – even when running on used tyres. Three Bond and Fabio’s experience of the series means that they are pushing all-out to win the championship this year, which consists of 20 races over Japan’s most famous circuits. “I believe we are getting some really useful work done,” said Fabio, after finishing the final private test before all the teams go head-to-head. “I know most of the people in the team well, and the testing we have done so far has enabled us to establish a really good basic set-up with the dampers and the suspension. The car is very nice to drive already, and we are working in a very logical way to improve it. But in some ways that is the easy part – now that we move on to the official test sessions next month, we will have to evaluate where we really are compared to the opposition. There’s not much time before the first race, so we are all beginning to feel the heat of competition.” The next official test session will take place back at Fuji on March 7 and 8, where all the teams will be able to compare their performance in full qualifying specification with new tyres. The teams will then complete two more days of testing at Suzuka from March 22-23, before an official test at Fuji on March 31 – the day before the first race.
