MORTARA TO GAIN EXPERIENCE AT WORLD SERIES BY RENAULT TEST
Newly-crowned Formula 3 Euroseries Vice Champion Edoardo Mortara is to test a World Series by Renault car at from November 26-27 at the Spanish circuit of Valencia. Mortara recently dominated the Macau F3 Grand Prix weekend, qualifying on pole after going quickest in every session, before an unfortunate brush with a barrier relegated him to second in the main race.
After a strong season in which the Volkswagen-powered driver led the F3 Euroseries for more than half the year, the 21-year-old French-Italian is building up experience ahead of 2009. The Valencia test with the Ultimate Signature team (which was runner-up in the World Series by Renault this year) will allow him to sample the 500 horsepower 3.5 litre car for the first time. However, Edoardo is no stranger to the Renault series, having won the Italian Formula Renault rookie title back in 2006.
“I’m very grateful to Volkswagen for allowing me to test this car,” said Edoardo. “I think it will be extremely interesting experience, which will allow me to add to my knowledge. I’ve never driven this type of car before, so I don’t know quite what to expect, but with the amount of power available it should be a lot of fun! We’ve had a great season this year with Volkswagen, and I look forward to building on that success in the future.”
Ultimate Signature, a new arrival on the World Series by Renault scene, finished second in the teams’ classification after its debut season this year and third in the drivers’ rankings with Fabio Carbone.
Edoardo’s two-day test programme in Spain is designed to build up his experience at the wheel of different cars. Last month he also tested a GP2 car, as he concludes his preparations for the season to come. Edoardo’s next appearance on behalf of Volkswagen will be at the Essen Motor Show in Germany, which starts on Friday.
