PIERRE RAGUES TO RACE IN FORMULA MASTER CHAMPIONSHIP
Frenchman Pierre Ragues has signed a deal to compete in the exciting new
Formula Master Championship this year, for the Euronova team owned by former
Grand Prix racers Vincenzo Sospiri and Emanuele Naspetti.
The Formula Master Championship is a brand new concept for this season,
featuring specifically designed single-seaters powered by a Honda engine.
The car¹s performance is roughly equivalent to that of a GP2 machine, and
the series will follow the prestigious FIA World Touring Car Championship
over 10 race meetings. The Formula Master drivers get to experience some of
Europe¹s most exciting circuits and also benefit from television coverage
provided by global channel Eurosport, which is backing the new series
The move to the Formula Master series is another exciting chapter in the
short but successful motor sport history of Pierre Ragues. He finished
runner up in the French Formula Campus championship during his first year of
racing cars, claiming one win, eight podiums and three pole positions.
Pierre competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours for the first time last year and has
already carved himself out a strong reputation in endurance racing.
His challenge for this year will be extremely different particularly as
Pierre is up against a number of extremely quick and talented team mates
but the 23 year-old from Caen is ready to rise to the occasion. He proved
his pace in a shoot-out for the drive using an old Formula 3000 chassis in
Valencia last month. Despite suffering a fever, Pierre set the quickest time
of the day: underlining not only his speed but also his single-minded
determination to succeed.
Pierre said: ³I¹m delighted to have clinched a deal with Vincenzo and
Emanuele¹s team, which has every chance of being a front-running outfit in
this exciting new championship, thanks also to their experience. I¹m not
underestimating the task ahead of me, as the car as well as most of the
circuits will be entirely new to me. But I think I react well under pressure
so I¹m hoping and expecting this to be a very successful partnership. I feel
well-prepared for the season ahead I¹ve been doing lots of physical
preparation work with Quadra Sports and my experience in sports car racing
has got me very much used to the speeds we will be doing in the Formula
Master Championship.²
Pierre¹s first race of the season will be at Valencia Spain on May 20th.
