BRILLIANT RECOVERY FROM CARBONE AT MACAU GRAND PRIX [Full Article]
[19-11-2006]
BRILLIANT RECOVERY FROM CARBONE AT MACAU GRAND PRIX Up-and-coming Brazilian Fabio Carbone staged a brilliant recovery drive at the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix, finishing 10th after starting the race back in 22nd. Fabio’s hopes lay in tatters before the Grand Prix even started, after another driver moved across on him during the all-important qualification race. The resulting damage to Fabio¹s nose cone meant that he finished Saturday’s race in 22nd: the same position from which he would start the prestigious Grand Prix on Sunday. However, the Threebond driver who finished fourth on the Japanese Formula 3 Championship this year refused to give up. He put in a determined and aggressive performance to finish an action-packed race in 10th place: 12 places higher than his starting position! The fast and twisty roads of Macau suit Fabio¹s driving style: in 2003 he secured pole position on the demanding Macau circuit and narrowly missed out on victory by finishing second. Although there was no podium for Fabio on this occasion, the 25 year-old was pleased to underline his speed again on the demanding street circuit. Fabio commented: “I cannot pretend that I am happy with our weekend, but it is not without its positive aspects. The good thing is that we have once more shown our speed on what is one of the most challenging circuits in the world. But equally, that makes me all the more annoyed about what happened on Saturday and especially on Sunday4s start when I couldn't avoid to hit the driver who stalled right in front of me and cost me to pit in to fix the car and start all over again from the back of the field. There’s no point in worrying about it now as these things happen in racing that¹s just life. But I firmly believe that we could have been fighting at the front if we had started with a decent grid position.” The Brazilian will now concentrate on preparation for 2007. His programme is yet to be decided, but Fabio is determined to make the most of all the lessons he has learned this year and get next season off to a flying start.
