CARBONE CLOSES IN ON CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD AT AIDA... Photo NewsThree Bond driver Fabio Carbone has finished on the podium once more at the fourth meeting of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship. The Brazilian was third in race two at Aida, which means that he climbs to second place in the championship and maintains his record of finishing on the podium at every race meeting this year. The Aida circuit is renowned for being difficult to overtake on, and wet conditions during the opening day only made the problem more difficult. Nonetheless, Fabio marked himself out with a succession of brave yet calculated manoeuvres that enabled him to make up several places. Fabio qualified in sixth place for race one and seventh for race two, in difficult conditions. As always the competition was extremely close, with just few tenths covering first to eighth places. During race one it was still raining, and Fabio proved once more why he is such a master in the wet. He made up one place off the start grid and another two laps later, finishing a solid fourth. Race two was dry and held in hot conditions. Fabio was on stunning form to make up four places from lights to flag after a demon start. Having qualified seventh he ended up third at the finish, taking a well-deserved podium for himself and the Three Bond team. The 25 year-old commented: “It was a tricky weekend that once more underlined the level of competition in this year’s championship. The biggest problem we faced was the same for everybody: Aida is notoriously difficult to overtake on. But I’m confident that we tried our best, and I’m pleased that we were able to improve our position. There is still a long way to go in this championship – we’re not even halfway through – and so we are going to continue to push hard. It’s good that we’ve had the consistency to finish on the podium at every round, but next I’m looking for a win!” The All-Japan Formula 3 Championship resumes at Suzuka with rounds nine and ten on July 8-9.
