MORTARA QUALIFIES NINTH AND TENTH AT SPA Photo NewsFrench-Italian driver Edoardo Mortara will start races seven and eight of the Italian Formula Renault Championship at Spa from ninth and tenth places on the grid. The Prema Powerteam driver had a clean run through the single qualifying session this afternoon, despite having very little experience of the track in dry conditions. The free practice sessions were characterised by rain and damp, meaning that Spa in the dry was a voyage of discovery for the former karting champion. The qualifying system for the Italian Formula Renault Championship uses a single session in which each driver¹s two fastest times determine their place in race one and race two respectively. Edoardo concentrated on steering clear of trouble during an extremely close session, which earned him two solid places on the grid. The 19 year-old, currently fourth in the championship, said: ³Under the circumstances I am satisfied with our grid positions. Until this afternoon I had no experience of running on this awesome driver¹s circuit in the dry. This meant that everything was unknown to me during the qualifying session, but as I get more time on the track I am growing in confidence. I¹m hoping we can have two really good races this weekend. I¹m really looking forward to them: this track is an amazing experience!² Spa, set in the foothills of the Ardennes in Belgium, is a legendary circuit that provides a massive challenge for drivers and a fantastic spectacle for fans. Dry weather is expected for both races but the onset of rain can be as unpredictable as the outcome of what are sure to be hotly contested races. Race one takes place on Saturday, while race two is on Sunday. For more information please contact: media@quadrasports.com Spa 2/6/06
