CARBONE MAKES IT THREE PODIUMS FROM FOUR RACES!
Three Bond driver Fabio Carbone, backed by Quadra Sports, has finished on the podium twice at the second meeting of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship at Suzuka. This means that the Three Bond driver has taken a podium three times from the opening four races, putting him third in the championship.
Suzuka is one of the most challenging circuits of the season, with legendary corners such as 130R and Spoon making it a real driver’s track. The venue is well-known for hosting the Japanese Grand Prix each year, and it happens to be one of Fabio’s favourite circuits. This was evident in a stunning performance from the 25 year-old Brazilian, which saw him set pole position for race two by the considerable margin of 0.8 seconds.
During the race, which unlike qualifying was held in dry conditions, Fabio suffered a lack of straight-line speed. Nonetheless he held on to score an impressive second place and consolidate his championship position.
Fabio qualified second for race one, and ended up third after encountering the same problems with straight-line speed. Nonetheless, the Brazilian and Three Bond were encouraged by an excellent and fault-free weekend, which puts them in good shape for the rest of the season.
Fabio commented: “I’m very pleased with the way the whole weekend has gone, and I’d like to thank the Three Bond team for doing a great job to put us in a winning situation. We weren’t far off victory, and with a little more work in certain areas I am confident we can be on the top step of the podium very soon. In any case, I can’t complain about scoring three podiums from four races: this is exactly the sort of consistency needed in order to do well on the championship. Conditions were difficult this weekend as we had a wet qualifying and dry races, but I think we made the most of them and showed to our rivals the speed we are capable of…”
The All-Japan Formula 3 Championship now takes a short break, as the next two races – the third meeting of the series – will take place at Motegi on May 27 and 28. Before then, Fabio will test his Three Bond Tomei-Nissan for two days from May 10-11.
