Carbone gets to grips with GT power
Fabio Carbone, backed by Quadra Sports, has tested a TOM’S team Toyota Supra
GT500 in Japan on the world-famous Fuji circuit.
The TOM’S team Toyota Supra is a frontrunner in Japan’s premier touring car
series, and Fabio had the chance to test it for two days.
Fabio used the first morning of the test to acclimatise himself and get up
to speed. On new tyres he set a personal best time in the afternoon of
1m34.07s. This was despite the session being red-flagged when Fabio was
going quickest and the tyres were at their best.
In the morning of day two, Fabio was able to set an impressive time of
1m34.60s straightaway – even though he was running with a long-range fuel
load and used tyres.
In the afternoon, the Brazilian took part in a 30-lap race simulation loaded
with 100 kilos of fuel. He consistently set lap times in the region of
1m35.5s, and the TOM’S Toyota team was naturally very pleased. After the
race simulation, Fabio set his quickest time of all throughout the two days:
1m34.07s.
Fabio said: “What an amazing car! Like all racing drivers I love power and
this car has plenty. I’d like to thank TOM’S for giving me the chance to try
the car; it was a fantastic experience.”
The TOM’S team campaign on their national GT series next year is sure to
allow them to challenge for the championship next year. As for Fabio, he
will be testing a World Series by Renault single-seater in Paul Ricard this
week. Updates to follow
