RAGUES WELL-PREPARED FOR FORMULA MASTER DEBUT
Frenchman Pierre Ragues makes his debut on the all-new Formula Master Championship this weekend, with round one of the series at Valencia in Spain.
The Formula Master championship is backed by television giant Eurosport and will follow 8 meetings of the prestigious World Touring Car series this year. It uses identical Honda-powered single-seaters with performances comparable to those of a GP2 car.
In preparation for the first race meeting, Ragues took part in the official test at the Spanish circuit with his Euronova team this week. Against a full field of 25 drivers, the 22 year-old set third-fastest time on the second day –just two-tenths of a second slower than the quickest time of the day.
The drivers will now go straight into two free practice sessions on Friday, before qualifying for the opening round gets underway later that day. Valencia is not an easy track to face, but Pierre is on top form after his successful testing results and an intense programme of physical preparation with Quadra Sports.
He commented: “Every test we have done with the car has been extremely positive and that has given me a lot of confidence. However, we also have to bear in mind that this is a brand new championship and a brand new car so it is normal to expect some small teething troubles. I am very pleased with the times that we have been able to set so far, as most of our work has been geared towards establishing reliability and getting to know the car better rather than trying to set really quick times. During the Valencia test I was taking no chances at all, as it would be stupid to risk the car with our first race so close. Thanks to Quadra Sports’ training programmes I am feeling fitter and more prepared than ever, so now I am just looking forward to getting started on some real racing!”
The first of the double-header races takes place on Saturday, while race two is on Sunday. Both races will be broadcast live on Eurosport, Europe’s largest television channel.
