MORTARA SIXTH ON SEASON-OPENER
Signature team driver Edoardo Mortara has finished in a solid sixth place after race one at Hockenheim in Germany, the opening meeting of this year¹s Formula 3 Euroseries.
Edoardo qualified in ninth place for the race, his Formula 3 debut, at the start of only his second year of racing cars. However, all his good work was undone when he was slow off the line eventually dropping to 15th place.
Undaunted, Edoardo staged a magnificent fightback to eventually finish sixth, passing several cars and setting times that were close to the fastest lap.
The 20 year-old said: ³It was a fantastic race for me. I¹m annoyed about losing time at the start, but then after that everything was OK. I was able to push really hard and I felt very comfortable with the car. I¹d like to thank everybody at Signature for doing such a good job, but it¹s important now that we all remain focussed for the main job tomorrow.²
Race two on Sunday will be the longest of the weekend, lasting around 40 minutes. The race starts using a reverse grid covering the top eight places, so Edoardo will be third on the grid. It¹s a golden opportunity for the French-Italian driver to chase his first podium...
