MORTARA FLIES IN FINAL TEST SESSION
Signature team driver Edoardo Mortara has underlined his potential with some stunning times at the final test session before the start of this year’s Formula 3 Euroseries.
The 20 year-old tested with his team for two days at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany – which will also be the venue for the first Euroseries race meeting of the season from April 21-22.
Edoardo’s best time over the two days of testing was 1m33.470s. This put the French-Italian driver comfortably in second-fastest overall, behind the experienced Esteban Buemi, and it also made him fastest rookie of the entire field. In fact, Edoardo is a rookie in the truest sense of the word – as he is only starting his second year of racing cars after a successful career in karts.
On the first day of the test, conducted with all the leading teams present, Edoardo continued the close technical collaboration he has enjoyed so far with the Signature team, which is based in Bourges near Paris. Having established a good set-up, he was able to focus entirely on setting some quick times during the second day.
Edoardo was quickest of all during the morning session, to continue the excellent pace he has demonstrated so far in pre-season testing. He also set some very competitive times during the afternoon – despite the fact that he was using old tyres.
Mortara said: “This test was the one that really mattered, as obviously it took place at the circuit we will be racing on in just a few weeks’ time. I’d like to thank everybody at Signature, who have worked so hard to give me a competitive car. Their technical know-how has enabled me to show some good speed before the season start, which is obviously very satisfying. However, it’s crucial that we do not get carried away. This is just a test, and it’s what happens during the race that counts. In testing you never know what everybody else is doing, so the only thing you can comment on is your own pace. I’m confident we’ve got a very good car, but it’s down to me to concentrate on the task in hand during the race weekend now. I’d like to think that we’ve given ourselves a good base to build on, with all the work done so far.”
Round one of this year’s hotly contested F3 Euroseries will take place at Hockenheim from April 21-22.
