A PERFECT WEEKEND FOR CARBONE AT SUGO!
Brazilian Fabio Carbone has rounded off a perfect weekend at Sugo by claiming victory on round 16 of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship from pole position. Fabio dominated the entire weekend, setting fastest time in every single session, qualifying first on the grid for both races, and taking two race wins.
The Threebond driver is now homing in on third in the championship, and is firmly committed to improving his position in the final race meeting that remains this season.
Conditions for race two at Sugo were characterised by heavy rain: a stark contrast to the warm weather in which Fabio took his first win of the weekend on Saturday’s race one. Nonetheless, the 25 year-old proved his mastery in all conditions by leading from the front on Sunday without making a single mistake.
Once more, Fabio adopted the tactic that had proved so effective the day before. Having made a perfect start, he pushed hard in order to build up a comfortable lead in the first few laps – which he was then able to control to the finish.
Sugo contains a number of hills and blind crests, making it a huge challenge for every driver. Fabio loves these difficult conditions, and his awesome abilities in the rain emphasised his domination of the weekend.
The 25 year-old said: “It was another dream day and I am absolutely delighted – especially for everybody in the team, which has worked so hard to achieve this pair of victories. After six podium finishes without a win we really needed this, and I’m sure we will all feel a lot more confident heading into the last four races of the season. From the very first session we were setting the pace, and that was the key to everything. The car felt fantastic, and we made very few changes over the course of the weekend. We know we can win and it’s a fantastic feeling, but that makes us all the more hungry for the next one!”
The next and final round of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship takes place at the famous Motegi twin ring circuit from October 21-22.
