CARBONE ON THE PODIUM AT FUJI Brazilian Fabio Carbone has taken his sixth podium finish of the year at the latest round of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in Fuji. The Threebond driver struggled to find the right set-up during free practice on Friday due to a wide variety of conditions on the highly technical circuit. He made a number of major changes to the settings, but was disappointed to qualify seventh for both races. However, things got better when it really mattered. During race one, he made up two places off the line to reach the first corner in fifth place. He kept the pressure on the cars in front of him, and when two other competitors crashed, Fabio was able to claim another podium. Race two was held in wet conditions, and Fabio¹s explosive start was one of the highlights of the event. He was up to fourth by the first corner, but the spray meant that he could not see the correct line and was forced to run wide. He dropped back to 10th place but refused to give up, ending the race fifth after overtaking several cars. The 25 year-old commented: "The weekend started badly but got progressively better by the end I was really enjoying myself. I'm obviously very pleased to have taken a podium in the first race, and I know that we would have been capable of another podium in race two, given our speed in the wet. Finding the right set-up is crucial in this very close championship, so really we handicapped ourselves on Friday. Despite that, we were very quick in the races so this is all very encouraging. We have to keep working hard now. There are still six races left: my aim is to win at least one of them and to finish in the overall top three of the championships" The All-Japan Formula 3 Championship resumes at the Sugo circuit with rounds 15 and 16 on September 16-17, after a two-day test at the same venue.
