SOLID RACE PACE FOR MORTARA AT MISANO Photo NewsJust a week after contesting the third round of the Formula Renault Eurocup at Misano in Italy, Prema Powerteam driver Edoardo Mortara was back in action for round five of the Italian Formula Renault Championship on the same circuit. The weekend's action consisted of two races, and although Edoardo lost some places due to a poor start in the first encounter, he demonstrated solid race pace to reinforce his position as one of the most talented young drivers in the series. After yet another very close qualifying session involving 34 cars, Edoardo was a promising sixth on the grid for race one and seventh for race two. But the first race started disappointingly, when the French-Italian driver lost a number of places on the grid after making a poor getaway. Nonetheless, this did not distract him throughout the 20-lap race and Edoardo enjoyed an entertaining battle with Rahel Frey before finishing ninth. Race two held fewer problems for Edoardo. Having lined up seventh on the grid he maintained the position until the end, scoring a useful haul of championship points. After five race meetings of seven, Edoardo current lies P4 in the Formula Renault Italia title race. The former karting champion commented: "It was not really a spectacular weekend for us, but had we made a better start for the first race, we would at least have enjoyed a solid performance. As it is I am disappointed with the results, because we could definitely have had a lot more out these two races. Still, that's life. We know our potential and our speed, and we will be pushing hard to get back on the podium in our next races." The next round of the Italian Formula Renault Championship takes place at Vairano, Italy, from September 16-17. Before then, Edoardo will take part in the fourth round of the European Formula Renault series at Germany's famous Nurburgring, from August 5-6.
