MORTARA CLIMBS LEARNING CURVE AT BARCELONA TEST Photo NewsFrench-Italian driver Edoardo Mortara has emerged satisfied from a two-day Formula Renault Eurocup test at Barcelona. The Prema Powerteam driver worked through a comprehensive test and development programme that has enabled to him to expand his technical knowledge, having contested only eight car races in his career to date. The former karting champion, who made his Formula Renault Eurocup debut at Zolder earlier this month, concentrated on suspension and aerodynamic set-up. It was also his first acquaintance with the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, which will host the final round of the Eurocup in October. Barcelona, which recently hosted the Spanish Grand Prix won by Renault driver Fernando Alonso, is a popular testing venue throughout the year for all the Formula 1 teams. The track enjoys year-round good weather and provides a wide variety of technical challenges, enabling teams to assess every aspect of their set-up. Mortara and his team were not chasing lap times in Barcelona, but instead concentrating on trying different set-ups in order to better understand how his car would behave. He also tried running with both new and used tyres, to see how this would affect the handling. He emerged 14th fastest overall on the first day and was 13th quickest overall on day two. His best time in the morning session of day two (on new tyres) was P10 and his best time in the afternoon session was P7, underlining his front-running pace. The 19 year-old said: “The lap times are almost irrelevant: this has been an extremely positive test where I feel I have made a big step forwards in understanding how the car works. We were able to get a huge amount of work done thanks to the professionalism of the Prema Powerteam, which once again prepared an excellent car that gave us no problems throughout the two days. I still made a couple of small mistakes on my flying laps, but this is all part of the learning curve and hopefully we can eliminate them as I gain experience. I’m feeling very pumped up now and I can’t wait for my next race!” Edoardo will be in action again at the next round of the Italian Formula Renault championship from June 3-4 at the legendary Spa circuit in Belgium. The next Formula Renault Eurocup race takes place from June 17-18 at the all-new Istanbul circuit in Turkey. For more information please contact: media@quadrasports.com Barcelona 25/05/06
