RAGUES SIGNS FOR SIGNATURE Photo News

Frenchman Pierre Ragues has signed for the Signature team to contest the Le Mans Series in 2009 as well as the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The 23 year-old from Caen has been driving an LMP2 car on the series this year, with great success, and he now moves to the Bourges-based Signature team for an LMP1 campaign in 2009. Signature is branching out into endurance racing for the first time this year, campaigning an Oreca-Judd on the six-race series.

After starting his career in karts, Pierre also accumulated single-seater experience through the Formula Master category – where he was a regular podium finisher – as well as in the Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24 Hours.

He tested Signature’s LMP1 car for the first time earlier this month at the Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France, and is now delighted to conclude a deal with the team – which has traditionally been a dominant force in single-seaters.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me to graduate to the very top level of sportscar racing and I am very grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen,” said Pierre. “This is a new adventure for Signature and myself, but I completely trust the professionalism of the team, which was obvious from the moment that we first met. Of course there is a lot of competition in the top LMP1 category, but we are all looking forward to the challenge and I believe that the car will be extremely competitive. I'd like to thank Saulnier Racing for having together such a fantastic season in LMP2 this year, which has prepared me well for everything to come in 2009."

Philippe Sinault, the team principal of Signature, said: “We are very pleased to have secured Pierre’s services for 2009, as he has already marked himself out as a real star of the future. He also has experience of the Le Mans Series from the past, which will be very useful as we embark on our first year in this championship.”

Pierre’s team mate for the single-car entry is due to be announced shortly, and the duo will embark on a test programme prior to the first round of the season.
