MORTARA READY FOR UNIQUE CHALLENGE OF BRANDS HATCH Photo NewsFormula 3 Euroseries leader Edoardo Mortara enters the second part of the season determined to continue the winning pace that swept him to the top of the championship points table at the start of the year, claiming three podiums from the first six races. Although the last couple of events have not been so good for the Signature team driver, a raft of mid-year improvements should stand him in good stead for the four race meetings left to go this year.

The first of those events is Brands Hatch in England: a circuit that holds some good memories for Edoardo as it was there that he claimed his first-ever overall victory in the F3 Euroseries last year, en route to the rookie title.

Brands Hatch, a former home of the British Grand Prix, contains a wide variety of sweeping corners over several different elevations, making it almost a mini-Nurburgring. The car set-up has to be flexible in order to cope with the variety of different challenges, and above all it is a track that puts the emphasis firmly on driving talent and controlled aggression. As is often the case in England, weather conditions can be variable.
For the second part of the season, the Signature team has made a number of improvements to the car, and there is also an evolution to the new Volkswagen engine – which is only in its first full season of Formula 3 racing this year.

“To be second in the championship at this point in the year, with a new car and brand new engine, is certainly beyond our expectations and we’re all very happy with the progress we’ve made so far,” said Edoardo. “However, it’s only natural to always want more and our target now is to try and regain the lead of the series. It’s never easy, but whatever happens my aim is to continue this strong form right through to the end of the season.”

During the four weeks since the last round of the F3 Euroseries in Germany, Edoardo has been concentrating on his physical and mental fitness. He also took part in the prestigious Zolder F3 Masters competition in Belgium.
“Personally I feel very well-prepared and I know that the car is very well-prepared too,” said Edoardo. “Volkswagen has done an amazing job in its first full year to get us to where we are now and I look forward to trying out the new evolutions on the engine. Brands Hatch is a circuit I like: it suits my driving style as there is plenty of scope to improvise. I’m just eager to get started!”

The Brands Hatch race weekend, round seven of the Formula 3 Euroseries, kicks off with free practice and qualifying on Friday. Race one takes place on Saturday at 10:50 while race two is on Sunday at 11:20.
