MORTARA READY FOR F3 EUROSERIES MEETING IN GERMANY Photo News

Edoardo Mortara heads to the sixth meeting of the prestigious Formula 3 Euroseries at the Nurburgring in Germany this weekend with the firm aim of protecting his nine-point championship lead.

The legendary Nurburgring is regular fixture on the Grand Prix calendar, and while the classic Nordschleife is no longer used for single-seater racing, the modern circuit still provides a huge technical challenge. Bad weather often affects the Nurburgring, high up in the Eifel mountain range, adding to the awesome challenge of this famous circuit.

Although his championship lead means that Edoardo is not obliged to take unnecessary risks, he will still be pushing hard as he is eager to extend it. With the highly-competitive nature of the 2008 Formula 3 Euroseries – which has now reached its halfway point – no driver can afford to relax.

Edoardo has certainly not been taking it easy over the last couple of weeks. The Signature team driver, now in his second year of the Formula 3 Euroseries, has been training hard in preparation for the race with CONI Tirrenia in Italy: the country’s Olympic committee, responsible for the training of top athletes.

Edoardo said: “It was an enormous privilege for me to train with CONI Tirrenia and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. It was a fascinating insight and inspiration for me to see at first hand the dedication put in by Olympic athletes, and I was able to learn a lot. Thanks to all the work we covered, I can honestly say that I have enjoyed it a lot and feel very motivated for this week end. We head to the Nurburgring in an extremely positive frame of mind and I am very much looking forward to racing on a circuit I really like. The basic objective, as it has always been, is to hang onto the championship lead. However, I’m looking to extend it if possible.”

Edoardo is powered by an all-new Volkswagen engine this year, which is also leading the championship for the first time: an impressive achievement in its debut season.

The Signature team will run on Thursday at the Nurburgring for an official test, before qualifying takes place on Friday. Race one is scheduled for Saturday 26 July, while race two is on Sunday 27 July.
