DOUBLE POINTS FINISH FOR CARBONE AT SILVERSTONE
Ultimate Signature driver Fabio Carbone finished fourth in race one of the World Series by Renault at Silverstone, round seven of the championship, and went on to claim a fifth in race two: his first double points finish of the year.
The Silverstone circuit is one of the quickest that the World Series drivers visit all year, and it is well-known for being the home of the British Grand Prix – as well as Ultimate Signature’s home circuit. With a variety of straights and high-speed corners, it is a massive technical challenge as well as a very physical experience for the drivers.
Carbone started second on the grid for race one on Saturday after a strong performance in the morning’s super pole session, where conditions remained dry and consistent. Silverstone is one of Fabio’s favourite circuits, which showed in his rapid progress.
When it came to the race though, he was not able to make as clean a start as he had hoped, and he slipped down to third at the start. A slight handling imbalance meant that Fabio had to defend his position rather than push as hard as he would like, but the Brazilian ended the race in fourth – his best result of the World Series by Renault season to date.
“It’s good for the team to score some points, but it was a long way from a perfect race,” said the 27 year-old. “We had a few issues, but it’s nice to get a solid result behind us and I hope that we can build on that. I’m feeling quite confident.”
The Brazilian started from seventh position on the grid for race two and elected to stay out slightly longer than his team mate before coming into the pits, in order to try and make up some places. The tactic worked well, as Carbone emerged in fifth.
“It’s been a very solid weekend for us: we needed to get some good finishes,” he added. “These results have given myself and the entire Ultimate Signature team – which did another perfectly professional job all weekend – a big boost of confidence heading into the future.”
The next World Series by Renault meeting is due to take place at the Hungaroring near Budapest (the home of the Hungarian Grand Prix) from July 5-6.
