Interview with Pierre Ragues Photo News1) How do you feel your season has gone? This was a season where I learnt a lot. I got to know many European circuits and a car that was able to carry very high speeds through corners. I’m quite happy, as we were able to show our potential at every race meeting. Unfortunately though, we had a number of mechanical problems that meant we were not able to get the concrete results that we wanted. 2) What do you think have been the best bits and the worst bits? The best memory will be my podium finish in Germany after a very exciting race. It was not just a first podium for me, but also a first podium for the team. The worst memory will be race one at Valencia. There I was penalised for a collision with another competitor, which made me lose out on big points right at the start of the season. I know that we could have been quick on that circuit… 3) What do you think of the new Formula Master Championship? Considering that this is only the first year of Formula Master, the championship is at a very high level. It’s been a good year, with an extraordinary amount of television coverage. Of course we had our share of mechanical problems but this is fair enough in the first year, with about 30 cars making up the field. The Formula Master car is a lot of fun to drive with a high level of aerodynamic grip. This gives us performance that is close to that of a Formula 3 car. 4) What are your plans for next year? For the moment, it’s a bit too soon to talk about next season: I haven’t discussed it yet with my manager Ange Pasquali. We need to sit down and talk about the options that are available, and choose the best solution for the future… 5) What is your ambition for the near future? In an ideal world I’d like to drive a competitive car with plenty of power and high levels of downforce – but that might be so easy to achieve. I’d also like to do the Le Mans 24 Hours again: it is such a legendary race with a magical atmosphere. 6) What has been the most valuable lesson that you have learned this year? There have been many things, but in particular I’ve learned to work very closely with my race engineer to refine my car’s set-up in detail. I’ve also learned how to make the most of the car’s performance during a qualifying lap – but like many things in motor racing, this is still a work in progress. You learn all the time.
